The weather looks fair and sunny for Friday and Sunday. Saturday has a chance of showers in the forecast. Low temperatures reaching the low to mid 50s, highs in the high 60s to mid 70s.

Regional Outdoor Events: Catskill Center is pleased to be presenting the 4th Annual Taking Flight Conference with the New York State Ornithological Association (NYSOA). It’s not too early to be thinking about October! A partnership between several nonprofit hiking and environmental organizations, Lark in the Park is happening October 5th through the 14th all throughout the Catskills region featuring hikes, paddles, art events and more with local experts.

Peekamoose Blue Hole: No permit is required from now through the end of 2019. Continue following Leave No Trace and please Carry Out What You Carry In if you visit the Blue Hole or any other area of the Catskill Forest Preserve!

Weather: Be aware of and prepared for changing weather conditions in the Catskills. Stay current with the National Weather Service Weather Forecast. The NY Mesonet has stations in and just outside of Catskills that provide real time weather data and forecasts. Hudson Valley Weather provides detailed forecasts for the Hudson Valley and the Catskills.

The Catskills Stewards Hiking Tip of the Week: Essential skills and outdoor ethics are crucial for enjoying the Catskill Park in a safe and responsible manner. Read on to discover a top hike safe consideration this week.

Prehydrate! Drink plenty of water before starting your hike, and continue drinking frequently (even if not thirsty) early in the hike, especially heading up a mountain. Try to keep up with perspiration and breaking hard. This will make your hike easier by maintaining proper hydration. [Important note: if you run out of water or start to feel ill, it’s a good time to head home.]

The Congressman Maurice D. Hinchey Catskills Visitor Center (CVC) hosts a weather station in the MesoWest Network. Check the current weather conditions. The Center is located at 5096 Route 28 in Mt Tremper, NY. We’re open seven days a week from 9am through 4pm. The Center’s gift shop also carries trail mapstrail guides and more for purchase.

Catskill Stewards at the Peekamoose Blue Hole, Kaaterskill Falls and Platte Clove: The Catskill Center’s Catskill Steward Program has launched for the 2019 season. Stewards will be present at the Peekamoose Blue Hole and Kaaterskill Falls (by the Upper Falls Parking Area) Thursdays through Mondays. A Steward will be present at Platte Clove on Saturdays and Sundays.
