High Water Warnings - Updated 7/23/18

Over the last 24 hours, several inches of rain have fallen across the Catskills, leading to rising streams and rivers across the region. Rain and thunderstorms are forecast over the next several days, likely keeping these streams and rivers higher than normal. Flood Watches are posted across the Catskills region and many rivers are already running bank full.

For unbridged trail crossings of streams and rivers, some may be difficult, if not impossible to cross during periods of high water. Plan ahead and have multiple options should your first choice impassable.

Water levels rise and fall quickly in the Catskills in response to rain, so a stream crossing that may have been okay upon starting a trail, may be difficult to impossible to cross when you return. If that is the case, do not attempt to cross the stream. Instead find an alternative route or wait for the stream levels to subside before crossing.

High water is dangerous. Do not attempt to cross flooding streams and rivers.
