Friends of Music of Stamford NY Presents Formosa Quartet

Friends of Music of Stamford NY presents the Formosa Quartet. Formed in 2002, this string ensemble is committed to championing Taiwanese music, as well as exploring diverse and adventurous mediums. Members Jasmine Lin (violin), Wayne Lee (violin), Che-Yen Chen (viola), and Deborah Pae (cello) hold degrees from the Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, and New England Conservatory. They have established themselves as leading solo, chamber, and orchestral musicians and performed in major venues throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe.

Formosa Quartet has played a leading role in actively commissioning new works, including three pieces by Dana Wilson — Hungarian Folk SongsThe night of h’s, and Apart. The program for the Friends of Music performance features Wilson’s Hungarian Folk Songs, along with George Gershwin’s Lullaby, jazz tunes by Stephane Grappelli (arranged by Jasmine Lin), and Dvorak’s String Quartet No. 12 in F major.

Winners of both the First Prize and Amadeus Prize at the London International String Quartet Competition, Formosa Quartet is considered one of the very best quartets of their generation. The group has given critically acclaimed performances at the Ravinia Festival, the Caramoor Festival, the Library of Congress, Lincoln Center, and London’s Wigmore Hall, and has recorded on the EMI, New World Records, and Delos labels.

From April through December, the Friends of Music of Stamford, NY present a monthly chamber music concert on the third Sunday of every month. Performances are generously hosted by the Stamford United Methodist Church at 88 Main Street. Admission is by donation; the suggested donation is $12 per person, and $6 for seniors & students. There is no charge for those under age 13.
