This evening's concert is preceded by a lecture on "Virtuosic Vocal Chamber Music of Mid 17th Century Italy". Come early and join us for this insightful lecture at 7:30pm.
Welcome to seventeenth-century Italy, where vocal chamber music pyrotechnics explode in frothy rhetoric. This program explores the melodic inventiveness and passionate harmonic twists that flourished in the music of the virtuoissima Barbara Strozzi in Venice. Barbara Strozzi was one among many famous women singers of her generation, but she was unique in her equal proficiency as a composer that established her as one of the leading composers of vocal chamber music of the entire Baroque period. Join us for an evening featuring voices, plucked strings and violins in a feast of captivating songs, lively dance tunes and sensuous sonatas.
This performance is part of the Piano Performance Museum Concerts & Conversations series of the Catskill Mountain Foundation's presenting season and is made possible with the generous support of the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation.
