  • Commons Gallery 785 Main St Margaretville, NY, 12455 United States (map)

These artists fulfill the spirit and promise of their new show, “Serendipity x Two”, in the Commons Gallery, Margaretville. Reaching deep into the rich tapestry of their work they demonstrate the breadth of their painting interests.   This collection of paintings in watercolor, with a smattering of acrylics and oil, testifies to the versatility of these two masters of the art.  The painters approach their art from different perspectives.
Clemm is a virtuoso performer, both in her past as an actress of many theatre adventures both on Broadway and in films, and as a master of combining water and pigments.  She paints in her studio, using her brush as a magic wand to create works of imagination and remembered landscapes—vistas the viewer wishes he had seen in exactly the way Clemm remembers:  in high color, fantastic, flowing and reaching out to pull the viewer into their center. She reveals both excitement and serenity in her work.
Travis, on the other hand, is devoted to painting outside, plein air painting.  The familiar subjects of her paintings the viewer too, has just seen on the way to the grocery store, the post office, in the garden yesterday morning or even in the pantry or down in the basement.     Travis is a street performer, wielding her brush with a quick flourish to a rapid finish — voila, and the painting is done!  She usually puts the finished painting into a drawer to come upon unexpectedly some time later.  If she is pleased at this second chance encounter it is a “keeper” and we all may see it at some future date.
