(EAST MEREDITH) On Saturday, June 16, at 8pm, the West Kortright Centre presents YouTube sensation Choir! Choir! Choir!—a Toronto-based singing group led by creative directors Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman. The duo takes a non-traditional approach to choir directing; there are no auditions, and the audience is the choir. At this experiential and participatory event, they will be leading the audience-choir in an original arrangement of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” which is especially fitting, given The Centre’s repurposed church venue.
Choir! Choir! Choir! pushes the boundaries between practice and performance, artist and audience, offering therapeutic benefits of singing and community-building. Lovers of song and singers of all ages and aptitudes are welcome to attend. This communal performance/workshop offers an uplifting and profound way for people to connect.
Founded in 2011, Choir! Choir! Choir! has amassed a dedicated and passionate community of singers and a thriving international fan base on YouTube. The group has performed with renowned artists such as Patti Smith, Tegan and Sara, David Byrne, Rick Astley, and Rufus Wainwright, and onstage at New York’s Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall with the likes of Debbie Harry and The Flaming Lips.
Tickets are $20 ($23 day of); $17 WKC Member ($20 day of); $11 under 19. Tickets are available online until 24 hours before the event. The ticket booth opens at 7PM on June 16; doors open at 7:30. This is an indoor event; however, participants are encouraged to come early to purchase food on-site (served by The Smoke Shack from Delhi) and enjoy a picnic in the bucolic West Kortright Centre valley before the show.
The West Kortright Centre is located midway between Oneonta, Delhi, and Stamford. Follow signs from State Route 23 in Davenport Center or State Route 10 east of Delhi. For advance tickets and exact travel directions, visit www.westkc.org.
