This third annual event has been declared a Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway Signature Event by the Town of Middletown.

NYS Route 28 from Olive to Andes - the main artery of Headwaters History Days - was officially designated a New York State Scenic Byway in 2015.

We invite you to ramble along the Byway to explore 15 special sites across three counties: Follow the East Branch Delaware River and its tributaries through the towns of Andes, Middletown and Roxbury in Delaware County; up to Halcott in Greene County; and over the divide at Highmount to the Esopus Creek towns of Shandaken and Olive in Ulster County.
Museums, landmark structures and historic sites will be open to the public this weekend, at no charge.  Special events include a Friday evening concert, a walking tour, four local history talks and a genealogy workshop.

Two former stations on the Ulster & Delaware Railroad will be open in Roxbury and Phoenicia.  In Dunraven, a “District #10” school that is now a museum will also welcome visitors.  Learn how to research your family history at the Fairview Public Library in Margaretville.  Hear excerpts from a diary kept during construction of the Ashokan Reservoir at the Olive Free Library.

Find out about Fleischmanns’ hotel heyday and the family that gave the village its name at the Greater Fleischmanns Museum of Memories.  Learn more about the epic Anti-Rent War of the 1840s at Hunting Tavern Museum in Andes.

Climb the stairs of the Roxbury Methodist Church tower to see (and hear) a venerable clock chime the hour. Visit the exquisite church, railroad station and public park built by the Goulds of Roxbury.  Get acquainted with naturalist John Burroughs at his Roxbury retreat, Woodchuck Lodge.  Hear music inspired by his essays at a concert by the John Burroughs Memorial Locust and Wild Honey Orchestra, which will perform in a former Grange Hall in beautiful Halcott.

In Kelly Corners, watch a complex network of belts and pulleys power a sawmill in a 150-year-old barn at the Hubbell Homestead farm.  Then, visit the Pakatakan Farmers Market housed in the iconic Kelly Brothers Round Barn.

Headwaters History Days is a feast for those who love the Catskills and its colorful past!
