Put on your best party flannel and join us to celebrate the launch of Fred & the Lumberjack, a brand-new picture book about loneliness, finding friendship in unexpected places, and plaid -- lots and lots of plaid. Our featured guest, local children's author/illustrator Steven Weinberg, will be here to read the story and share a glimpse into his drawing process. Pick up a signed copy of the book and enjoy lumberjack-style snacks and fun, then head out on our nature trail for a forest adventure of your own!
In Fred & the Lumberjack, Fred the wood-working beaver has just finished building a den. But not just any den. His DREAM DEN. The problem is, it's missing one small thing...a friend! And he finds exactly that in Sophia, a spectacular lumberjack who has excellent woodworking skills and is building her own dream den. But when Fred tries to say hi, disaster strikes and Sophia's den is ruined. How can Fred salvage this friendship? Is he doomed to live a life alone?
Steven Weinberg writes and illustrates kids' books about dinosaurs, roller coasters, beards, chainsaws, basically all the fun stuff. His books have been called "thrillingly shameless" by the NY Times, "guaranteed to fuel readaloud energy" by Publisher's Weekly, and "the best thing to ever happen to me" by one very sweet first grader in Washington, DC. He lives in the Catskills with his wife Casey Scieszka, his dog Waldo, and their bed and bar called the Spruceton Inn that they all run together in the backyard.
