Rock Painting Workshop (All ages, Drop-In)

  • Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center 5096 New York 28 Mount Tremper, NY, 12457 United States (map)

Artist Susan Togut will teach 3 free drop-in workshops (August 19, 26 and September 2) on hand-painting rocks. The FREE workshops will run from 10 am to 2 pm each day. Come for one Saturday or all three; stop by for 15 minutes or stay for all 4 hours. The finished products will be incorporated into Ms. Togut’s public art sculpture, “Wisdom Trees: Embracing the Cycles of Life” located at the CIC along Route 28.

Ms. Togut’s sculpture installation, Wisdom Trees; Embracing the Cycles of Life, is a living environment that changes over time. It is composed of a central arbor, two tree installations and pathways that circle the environment. Along the pathways intergenerational participants, of all backgrounds and abilities, will create hand-painted rocks. These will be designed and painted with diverse styles, content and symbolism, using heavy body acrylic paints. All are invited to attend; no previous experience is required. This will be a dynamic, fun and highly communal experience for all.

Workshops are offered by Susan Togut; MFA, Public Artist, Educator, and Therapeutic Facilitator.   Ms. Togut creates mixed-media, public art and gallery works focused on the cycles of nature, the fragility of life and regeneration with a consciousness of both individual and community wellness.  Over the years she has facilitated and taught people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.  She believes that all people are inherently artists and that the arts should be woven into the fabric of daily life.

The 3 FREE drop-in Rock Painting Workshops will take place Saturdays, August 19, 26 and September 2 from 10:00 am – 2 pm at the Catskill Interpretive Center located at 5096 Route 28 in Mt. Tremper, NY. To learn more visitwww.catskillinterpretive center.org/cic-events/
