John Burroughs and Slide Mountain

Join historian Paul Misko to hear a talk about John Burroughs and his first attempts to climb Slide Mountain, both of which took him into Woodland Valley. The first hike took place in 1884, and was unsuccessful. The second hike took place in 1885, via a different route; and that one was a success. Paul will use a series of photos to enhance the talk, and will share some comments from John's journal concerning these hikes.

Paul Misko has spent many years exploring Woodland Valley and researching it's history. He has written numerous articles on hiking and history, and has given talks and done trivia quiz shows on WIOX's "From the Forest" radio show. He is the founder of the Catskill 4000 Club, which focuses on unusual, and history related hikes, and teaching outdoor skills.
